Poet and Pancakes
Poet and Pancakes is an excerpt from his book " My year with boss" authored by Asokamitran. In this chapter he has mentioned the details of his working with Gemini studio and working elements. He has penned down about the office boy of Makeup department and about the lawyer and other key figures which played major role in making Studio Gemini kept running and successful movie studio.
The chapter was able to capture and depict the difference between reel and real life. He was able to show us the different techniques, approach and hard work of the actors put down for the role. Asoka was also successful in showing professional working between people as many people that hate each other despite that were able to produce great art. He has also thrown the light on the working of behind the work of camera.
Poets worked as writers for the film in a cubicle and was tasked to collect headlines from the newspaper
Not everyone saw that work useful still their hope of getting to be used as actor, screenwriter or play any major role in the film. Often he would get distracted by office boy and irritated by his daily complaint against Subbu and blame him for his failure and bad luck. Subbu was the main guy that directed the films and his talent , knowledge of films made him standout.
Pancake was a famous makeup brand used by studio Gemini in makeup of artists , actors of the film. Then he writes about the hard circumstances the actors and actresses has to face in process of getting make-up. Their eyes , face has to bear heavy makeup under strong heavy lights and later their face covered with heavy makeup that would turn them ugly.
So in the chapter poets and pancakes he has talked about the struggle of staff and artists. Poet was linked with people that wanted to become actors or more than regular writer for the film. Pancake has depicted the struggle of actors , in getting ready for the role and talked about the plight in getting everything ready for the film. Thus poet and Pancakes talked about the struggle of working in both dynamic.
